Cool Documentary : Uncut Funk ! Parliament Funkadelic

I am a fan of George Clinton’s P-Funk for almost 20 years… 20 years during which I’d wake up almost every morning thinking “Free your mind and your ass will follow”… Almost 2 years since this Uncut Funk ! Parliament Funkadelic documentary is on Youtube… And yet, I’ve just stumbled upon it today!!

It tells the biggest part of the P-Funk story… The doo wop debuts in George Clinton’s barber shop, the alien funk of Parliament, the rock under acids of Funkadelic, the influence on the early hip hop,…

George Clinton is like the black Frank Zappa… Or the other way around! They both shared a lot in common :

  • Leaders of bands featuring some of the most gifted musicians
  • Totally crazy
  • Creative characters
  • No limits to their music

Though this is not a documentary about guitar, you should watch it anyway because if you are a guitarist, and you have never listen or heard of the Parliament Funkadelic at least once in your life… Well, that means you fucked up your guitarist life!! Uncut Funk ! Parliament Funkadelic is divided in 6 parts, the first one is embedded below…

To watch the other 5 parts of Uncut Funk ! go check on Youtube Part 2 , Part 3, Part 4, Part 5 & Part 6

If I were to recommend three P-Funk albums… Well, that would be the hardest task ever because their discography is fucking awesome… But here are 3 of my favorite albums :

  • Parliament – Funkentelechy Vs. The Placebo Syndrome : A mothership, UFOs, the unfunky Sir Nose, shooting at the disco for devoiding funk from its subversive side…
  • Funkadelic – Maggot Brain : Maggot Brain tune, a 10’20 solo heavily influenced by Hendrix.  This is a sufficient reason to get this album … Actually, if you have never heard this tune… Well you fucked up your guitarist life !! (bis repetita)
  • Funkadelic – Standing on the Verge of Getting It On: Because of the gimmicks in Red Hot Mama,  because if Led Zep was a funky band they would have play Alice in my Fantasies, and just because this is a great album…
