A few links for the weekend : gear news, demos, reviews, websites, controversies and fun… Things that I could have blogged, things that went under my radar !! Enjoy…
Controversial Fender Tribute to the First Responders of 9/11
So, Fender releases 3 unique guitars as a tribute to the first 9/11 responders who were at the World Trade Center 10 years ago. These guitars won’t be sold but donated to to Sept 11, 2001, first-responder organizations.
I have to say that I am a bit confused by this homage… Nothing really wrong from Fender as these are not intended to be commercialized. They also avoid the over patriotic kind of thing. Yet, aesthetically speaking these guitars are far from being a success I think.
And beyond that, Fender bluntly presented these guitars yesterday on Facebook… And the comments sections is now like a giant battlefield between those praising Fender for doing it, those blaming Fender for doing this, the usual trolls, and all that kind of shit. I think that Fender rushed it out a little… It is a controversy material as you’ll read it on Fender’s Facebook page!
Gear Giveaway of the Week
I’ve seen many gear giveaways this week again but my favorite one is at Ultimate Guitar. They are giving away 2 Epiphone guitars : one Zakk Wylde Bullseye Custom Plus, and one Inspired by John Lennon Revolution Casino. All you got to do is answer the survey at Ultimate Guitar.
Guitar Fail of the Week
This is my favorite Guitar Fail of the week… Well at least I couldn’t stop laughing for a few minutes watching this picture of a windshield soiled by a bird who is a probably also a guitar hero!!
Eric Johnson Rig Rundown
Now this is a cool rig rundown made by Premier Guitar. They caught Eric Johnson himself to show us his stage rig… Notice that Eric Johnson tours with 2 1957 Stratocaster guitars! How cool is this?
You’re Out of Tune (But That’s Okay)
Very interesting article on Premier Guitar about the ambiguity of the guitar intonation, and we shouldn’t care more about it. The main reason being that it is part of the beauty, and tension in music (at least in many guitar solos).
That’s all for the 14th edition of the It’s All About Guitar Round-up segment… See ya later!
