Question for the Week-End : About Pick-ups Switching on Bass

How is it that the pick-ups selection on bass guitars has nothing to do with the 3 way or 5 way switch systems on guitars? I mean both systems are efficient in the way that they allow to select the pick-up you want to be active. Yet, I don’t get it why there are no switch selector on bass guitars. Not that it is going to make me insomniac or drive me crazy, but still an intriguing fact.

My hypothesis:

  • Bassists don’t need to switch pick-ups that often, and particularly during one song.
  • Some mysterious historical reason that remained overtime.

Anyone has a clue about this? Maybe the answer to this crucial question?
