Beside the whole new American Special Series, which is described as a highly affordable series of guitars that share some features with the Highway One and American Standard series, Fender is also coming up with some rather intringuing new gear: an electric acoustic Telecaster.
Fender Acoustasonic Tele
Basically, this is an electric acoustic Telecaster sort of an hybrid between a regular Telecaster and a Telecoustic. The body is made of ash with a spruce wedge center block. It has a custom shop single-coil pickup at the neck, and a Fishman piezo pickup at the bridge. The pickups are controlled via a regular Telecaster control plate with volume, active tone and pickups switch. And yes, this is a hollowbody guitar, and as such it features a rosewood acoustic Tele bridge, and a volume pots for volume adjustment of piezo pickups. Somehow it reminds me of some Godin electric acoustic guitars produced in the early 90s… I remember the disappointment I had with the Stratacoustic and the Telecoustic a few years. Yet, I’d fancy have a look on this one, and try to get some twangy electro-acoustic tones from it
