Got My Web TV: Fernandes TV.

Submitted by Sem on Saturday October 31st, 2009 – 01:01 PMNo Comment

I had a Fernandes guitar for a while, a Native P90 model that I’ve found in a pawn shop for a reasonable amount of cash! That was the first time I’ve made a great deal in such a shop cause the guys didn’t know much about this axe! I had to sell it because times were getting tough. But since this Fernandes period of my life, I’ve been quite interested in the instruments made by the Japanese firm (you wouldn’t say it’s Japanese just by its name!). And as I’m a fan of Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves (why would I use the nickname Sarssipius?) which guitarists are Fernandes users, I kept on following the news from Fernandes guitars…

I’ve spotted yesterday that they have redesigned the official website of the brand (fernandesguitars.com). Finally, Fernandes has a cool and clean website!! Sweet! I made a quick tour, and it is more user-friendly than the former version. As many instruments manufacturers, Fernandes joined the movement and is doing everything to build an online community. The new website has some new features that weren’t part of the former version (or maybe they were not as obvious as they are now):

  • Homepage news feed that highlights the news from the brand and the Fernandes artists.
  • Links to the Facebook page and Twitter account that are very visible… As you know, nowadays any company should have it’s social media program. If not… That’s not cool at all!
  • Fernandes radio that consists in broadcasting music from the Fernandes artists… Cool feature to surf the website. Caution: Hi energy music lovers only!

The feature that focused my attention is the Web TV that Fernandes implemented though they didn’t name it Fernandes TV… But, I’ll refer to it as Fernandes TV cause it worths it. They chose to have a Youtube channel, and they integrated the videos in the official website in order to bring the community there.

The content of the Fernandes channel is made of:

  • Fernandes artists videos: concerts, interviews.
  • Demos dedicated to the Sustainer which the most specific product they make.
  • Demos of the Fernandes instruments: guitars and basses.

What do I like about Fernandes TV?

  • The quality of the editorial demos.
  • The highlight on the Fernandes artists.
  • The very first video you’ll find is featuring Mike Clark and Dean Pleasant… Awesome players.
  • They feature demos made by users: this is quite rare for a brand to do this, and I think that they really got it at Fernandes.

What do I regret about Fernandes TV?

  • The integration of the videos on the website is not perfect yet: videos are a bit long to load.
  • The information item below the videos is not filled, and that’s too bad. However, I’m pretty sure they will complete that later.
  • Though there are videos about Fernandes basses on the youtube channel, these are not featured on the website.
  • Rating is the only interactive functionality available (but not working yet). I hope they will change that, and they will allow comments which is a much more interesting feature to engage with the visitors and the community.
  • The content on the video part of the website is not classified as well as on the youtube channel.

The former website was not bad, but the new one is a kick ass with its new features that bring some more value to the surf on Fernandes. Video brings a valuable information and/or entertainment especially when used on the individual pages of the Fernandes models as they did it with the embedding of official videos or concerts excerpts or video clips where the instrument is used. Good way to go guys…
