Got My Web TV: Jim Dunlop TV.

Let’s go back to the overview of the musical instruments video demos resources available on the internet. I already told about generalists and specialized websites, and I’ll go back to these  later. For now, I’m going to focus my interest on some interesting though a bit far from the muzicosphere project focus: brands and manufacturers websites.

Here is the Got My Web TV series (or the web TV of brands)… The content on these websites is actually far from the users reviews and tests that do interest me, as it is more of a communication or advertisment media. However, this content provides some interesting informations and some reliable source on many technical aspects that might interest the users. As I’m always looking to things unexpectedly, I’ll start this series of articles with a brand that doesn’t make musical instruments, but rather accessories: Dunlop Manufacturing.

Dunlop TV

Bass and guitar players know the American firm quite well as they produce many accessories dedicated to their favorite instruments: effects pedals (branded as Dunlop, Authentic Hendrix and Way Huge), strings, picks, slides, capos,… Dunlop Manufacturing is very active on the web to gather its users community via many online tools such as blog, Facebook page, Myspace, Twitter and a Web TV.

The whole content of the Dunlop Web TV (about a hundred videos) is to be found on the Jim Dunlop USA Youtube channel. Bryan Kehoe presents most of the editorial videos about Dunlop products and interviews of artists using Dunlop products.

What do I like about Dunlop TV?

  • The videos are well produced.
  • The demos shows a wide range of possibilities of the effects pedals.
  • Bryan Kehoe seems to be a fun guy… That does matter!!
  • Interviews are awesome

What do I regret about Dunlop TV?

  • The lack of informations about the gear used to demo the pedals. Which guitars? Which amps? Well, ok… If I open my eyes I’d surely tell which guitar is used, but to guess which amp is featured is much more tricky.
  • The videos are unsorted… Caution: excessive scrolling down can screw your index. A hundred videos is probably the limit from which you have to make the content more accessible.
  • The web TV integrated on the official Dunlop website just features the interviews, and not the gear demos.

So, a lot of valuable information is available at Dunlop TV but I think that this content deserves a better highlighting on Dunlop website. For exemple, videos could be featured in each individual product page that you browse through.
